What?
10 and Under Tennis using the QuickStart Tennis play format takes a new and better approach to introducing kids to the game. Balls are lower in compression; they bounce lower and don't move as fast so they are easier to hit. This allows kids time to get to the ball and helps them develop optimal swing patterns. Racquets are sized for small hands, and the courts are smaller and easier to cover. All that equals more fun and less frustration. Full sized courts can be reconfigured to accommodate up to six 36-foot courts, so instead of waiting in line, kids can spend their time playing

Why?
Kids learn to play baseball by first playing t-ball; they use shorter, lighter bats and larger, softer balls. Kids learning basketball shoot baskets with kid-sized balls and lowered backboards; they play soccer on smaller fields with smaller goals. But when it comes to learning tennis, we still make children play on adult-sized courts with yellow balls and adult-sized racquets. This is asking a lot of a kid who could be 2/3 the size of an adult.

But tennis has finally caught up.

10 and Under Tennis follows the same logic as other youth sports like baseball or soccer: kid-sized courts and kid-sized equipment. The benefits are immediate. Within an hour kids are rallying, having fun and psyched for more. They're playing real tennis and having real fun. And isn't that the point?

How?
The quickest and easiest way to get your child involved with QuickStart would be at The Edgewood Club. We are please to have Aldene Lacaria, the Club’s tennis pro, in charge of our tennis programs. Her teaching assistant is Max Schmerin.

2011 Junior Tennis Clinics

9:30am
Tiny Tots - ages 5 to 6

Children who are new to the game of tennis. With the QuickStart program your child will learn the basic strokes, for example, forehand backhand volleys and serve with the foam balls, shorter court and special net. With the use of on court equipment, your child will also learn footwork throwing skills and eye hand coordination.

10:30am
Beginner - Ages 7 to 10

Again using the QuickStart program, only concentrating now on improving the basic tennis strokes with enhancing footwork drills and eye-hand coordination.

Please Note - a 6 year old in Tiny Tots may move into beginner group only at the invitation of the teaching professional.

11:30
Intermediate - Ages 8 to 12

This group will be working with mostly stroke production, live ball and point play. These kids must be able to have a rally from the baseline and be able to work on their serves from the baseline using the real tennis ball and full tennis court.

Every student will be evaluated and placed in the proper clinic as to make it as close to skill levels as possible. Please remember tennis is not judged on age but on skills.
